Interface Security Systems is seeking an experienced System Design Engineer to join our innovative Center of Excellence team in Earth City, Missouri. 

SUMMARY:

The Systems Design Engineer provides technical expertise to the Sales and Operational teams and works in partnership with them to design comprehensive solutions for CCTV, Access Control, and Security Alarm systems for customers throughout the US.  This person will use their technical expertise and operational knowledge to engage with the salesperson and the customer, understand the design goals, propose one or multiple options to be considered and coordinate with the operational team on any installation or support concerns.  The System Design Engineer will assist the Sales Engineer and salesperson in developing a full bill of materials/parts list as well as installation procedures to be used by the operational team and approved by the customer and will at times provide detailed drawings and/or procedures to be followed. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support sales organization in the design of intrusion alarm, CCTV, and Access Control systems with a special focus on remotely managed and monitored CCTV systems. Designs range from single location 4 camera video systems to multi-hundred location systems that include video, audio, and intrusion to Access Control systems on corporate or college campuses. 
  • Meet and discuss requirements and options with the prospect as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of their business and their technology requirements.
  • Review formal bid specifications.
  • Assist with value engineering to provide good/better/best alternatives.
  • Leverage expertise to act as a consultant for prospects, evaluating products and processes and recommending improvements to enhance their physical security environment.
  • Outline any required supportive infrastructure to support the solution including networking, cabling, conduit, terminations, head end, and distributive equipment.
  • Draw from experience and knowledge to determine if the existing customer system can be leveraged as part of the new solution.
  • Work with sales and operational teams to define and assure understanding of job scope and procedures.
  • Provide an assessment of any known technical risks with the proposed solution.
  • Ensure that all project specifications are documented in the proposed technical solution including any compliance requirements associated with the proposed solution. Designs should be based on national standards and industry best practices.
  • Provide estimated parts lists to be used for budgetary proposals.
  • Develop detailed parts lists for final proposals.
  • Prepare any necessary documents that may be required including drawings when needed for permits.
  • Assist Operational teams in estimating workload.
  • Provide technical guidance and support, including customer training when required.
  • Assist Product team in providing engineering evaluation of new products and solutions being considered.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in the design and planning of CCTV, Access Control, and Intrusion alarm systems
  • 5 years of relevant recent experience in security design
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of CCTV, IP video, cloud-based Video Management Systems, video storage & archiving, command/control display technologies, and general security system principles and practices.
  • Good knowledge of infrastructure and related technologies such as power, UPS, networking, and communications
  • Experience in the design and implementation of large-scale integrated security systems in a commercial environment.
  • Ability to read and understand floor plans, diagrams, and system schematics as well as basic operations and design of low voltage alarms, CCTV, and other security systems.
  • Adept and skilled at interacting directly with prospects and sales reps.
  • Ability to quickly develop professional and trusted relationships with a variety of cultures and clients.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibly and diligently as a self-starter and to build trusted relationships with peers and customers.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with both technical and non-technical peers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office setting. Sitting or standing at a desk with a computer keyboard, monitors, and desk phone. The company dress code is business casual.  Remote work is a possibility with occasional travel to corporate locations for meetings.
